The Municipality of Campiglia Marittima includes the two urban centers of Campiglia
Cafaggio has been chosen by many people in recent years as a quiet but not isolated place of residence. The surrounding countryside is dotted with thriving farms that produce excellent wines, honey and quality fruit and vegetables.
The municipal area is divided into the Cornia Valley between hills and plains, overlooking the coastal strip that goes from the Gulf of Follonica to the coast of San Vincenzo. From the Campigliese hills, inserted in the route of the Costa degli Etruschi Wine Route, you can enjoy a suggestive view of the Tuscan Archipelago and the north of Corsica.
The human presence on the territory dates back to a period between 90,000 and 35,000 years ago , but the most evident settlement traces emerge starting from the Etruscan period of which the Forni Fusori remain in the Madonna di Fucinaia locality, near the Archaeological Mines Park of San Silvestro. Inaugurated in 1996, the Park collects some of the main monumental emergencies of the area. Rocca San Silvestro, a site excavated by archaeologists from the University of Siena, is a village founded in the 10th century and active until the mid-14th century, aimed at exploiting the mining veins and the production of metals and silver needed by the Pisan Mint for coinage.
